What do you specialize in?
We offer a wide range of custom manufacturing processes to bring your products to life, including multiple printing methods such as litho, silkscreen, tampo (pad) printing, heat transfer and hot stamping, and dye sublimation. Our molding capabilities span injection molding, working with materials like acrylic, PVC, polypropylene, polystyrene, and ABS, as well as compression molding with urea, blow molding, extrusion molding, resin casting, and die-cast metal. We work with electronics and mechanisms of all kinds. We also provide textile options in cotton, nylon, mesh, and more, along with vacuum forming, metal stamping for tins, and additional specialty solutions to meet your unique production needs. What is unique about GPI's manufacturing process compared to competitors?
GPI’s custom manufacturing process is unique because we maintain very close relationships with an intentionally small network of factories in China and Vietnam. We do not put our manufacturing assignments “out to bid” to dozens (or hundreds) of factories just to let the lowest price win the project. We visit our factories regularly. We spend our time there on the factory floors, vetting their operations, learning and overseeing their processes, working closely with their engineers, production supervisors, and quality control teams. We make a point of educating ourselves on all aspects of manufacturing to enable us to weigh in on product design, materials selection, packaging efficiencies, and more. Do you provide prototypes?
Yes and no – We don’t explicitly provide exploratory prototypes; however, we provide tooling or preproduction samples as part of our custom manufacturing and product sourcing processes. Preproduction samples are always provided to our customers if you’re committed to placing an order that meets our minimum order quantity of 5,000 units. These samples will show you exactly what the finished product will look like before we move into production. We want you to have opportunities to spot-check along the way.
How does the pricing work for custom manufacturing services?
Pricing is provided for the complete custom-manufactured product- completely assembled, packed in shipping cartons, and ready to deliver to the overseas port or picked up by your freight forwarder. Pricing is provided on either an ExWorks (picked up at the factory location) or FOB port (delivered to the shipping port, all China / Vietnam exportation expenses included). We’ll provide you with pricing across a range of potential production quantities so you can see the relationship between unit pricing and production volumes. Could you provide an overview of GPI's sourcing capabilities and process?
GPI’s product sourcing service all starts with a conversation. Ideally, a sample, a photo, a description, or a sketch of the item that you would like us to find with our network of suppliers. We’ll reach out to factories that we know are best suited to supplying the item you’re in search of. Samples are procured and submitted to you for approval. We’ll work with the supplier to provide costs for the item, based on a range of production quantities. We can also arrange for custom retail packaging to be developed for the product.
How does GPI ensure quality control and compliance?
GPI shares a set of quality control standards with each factory we work with. We follow industry-accepted standards based on the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) criteria. We work with each factory to identify its quality control inspection criteria and monitor performance closely. Contact us to learn more about our QC standards for your project.
Could you explain the product safety testing and certification services GPI offers?
GPI works with a number of the world’s largest independent product safety testing labs. We’ll first collaborate with you to understand which countries your products are intended to be sold into, and then have your product tested according to the standards set by each country. Some testing is mandatory, and some is voluntary. We also work closely with our factories to ensure that they are using materials and components that will pass testing standards before those materials and components are introduced into the manufacturing process. We also ensure that they are achieving and maintaining certain accreditations, as typically required by national retail chains. Different retailers have various standards for factory compliance. We can arrange for independent auditors to visit our factories’ facilities and conduct inspections to ensure that the factories are meeting the standards required of them.
Could you provide an overview of GPI's freight forwarding services and capabilities?
- GPI has a freight forwarding specialist on staff who works with independent freight companies to arrange shipping from the factory to the final destination (or multiple destinations around the world). Once we know more about your project, we’ll determine the detailed information necessary for the shipment- carton quantity, shipment weight, and dimensions and can then provide estimates for the cost of shipping, based on the service levels our customers require.
- If GPI’s customer prefers to use their own freight forwarder for the shipment of goods manufactured or sourced by GPI, we’ll then arrange to make the booking for the delivery of the goods per that freight forwarder’s instructions for delivery to the port. We’ll communicate closely with the appropriate contact to ensure a smooth delivery of the goods.
- Overseas shipping can be arranged via ocean cargo or via air freight. Once the shipment is offloaded at the ocean terminal or airport, we will continue to make the most cost and time-efficient arrangements for delivery via rail or truck.
How do you handle the tariffs?
- We do not factor in tariff costs into your unit pricing. Tariffs are a separate shipping charge that will typically come to you in a lump sum from your freight forwarder when your product clears US customs. If you’re shipping with us, our Logistics Coordinator can provide you with a shipping estimate that includes your tariff charges at the time of the estimate.
